Gerard Theodorus Van der Heyden was a landscape and mural painter, illustrator, and commercial artist. He was born in Holland and lived in Europe until 1915, studying at the Antwerp Academy of Arts, Belgium; Brussels AC; Academy Arts, Dusseldorf, Germany.
Van der Heyden moved to Detroit Michigan where he held a position as a staff artist for Ford Motor company and General Motors, and was also an illustrator for the Dearborn Independant.His work was exhibited with the Gordon Gallery, the Scarab Club, Detroit, MI; Woodmere Art Museum and Cheltenham Art Center, both in Pennsylvania.
