Galed Gesner, a native of Easton, Pennsylvania, moved to Mystic, Connecticut in 1937 and was an associate member of the Mystic Art Association for twenty years before becoming its president. His professional art study included work at the Scott Carbee School of Art in Boston, and tutelage under George Albert Thompson (1868-1938), Kenneth Bates (1895 -1973), and Jacques Maroger (1884-1962), who were also associated with the Mystic Arts Association. Maroger taught Gesner to make his own oil paints, a technique he adopted in his later years. Gesner specialized in still life and genre scenes, sculpture, and stained glass, and exhibited in Connecticut, New York, and Boston.
