The landscape and marine painter George Howell Gay is best known for his luminous coastal scenes in watercolor. A native of Wisconsin, Gay studied in Chicago before settling in Bronxville, New York in 1889. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Boston Art Club, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
