In New York and Old Lyme, Charles Vezin lived
and painted in the company of his closest friends and colleagues.
His consummate letter-writing allowed him to encourage and chastise,
prod and push his fellow artists toward his notion of the ideal
in American art. Ogden Pleissner, Helen DuMond, Frank Vincent
DuMond, Winfield Scott Clime, Allen Butler Talcott, Guy Wiggins,
William S. Robinson, Wilson Henry Irvine – all painted
under the watchful eye of “the Blessed Vezin.” If
there’s
a thread that weaves these canvases together, perhaps it’s
his whisper in the room: paint me something beautiful. Paint
me something true. |
