Junius Allen
(1898 - 1962)

New England Harbor at Low Tide
Junius Allen was considered one of the most promising artists of the twentieth century for his naturalistic and enticing paintings of coastal landscapes and harbors in New Jersey, New York, and New England. His strong color palette and soft brush strokes create a provocative dichotomy reminiscent of experiencing frigid ocean water on a hot summer day. He earned distinguished roles as a member of the Salmagundi Club and academician of the National Academy of Design during his lifetime, as well as numerous exhibitions along the Northeast coast. His work can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Montclair Art Museum, the Art Museum of the New Britain Institute, and the State Teachers College of Trenton, New Jersey in addition to many private and institutional collections.
